Distinguished by its smoky, complex, and earthy flavor profile, Bohea tea (pronounced "boo-hee") was a popular type of black Chinese tea in the 18th century. A staple import of the East India Company, Bohea's historical significance culminated during the Boston Tea Party on December 16, 1773, when American colonists — protesting taxation without representation — boarded British ships and dumped over 90,000 pounds of tea into Boston Harbor, 70,000 of which was comprised of Bohea.
